This policy explains what information Barakaah collects, why, and how it's used. We've tried to write it in plain language rather than dense legal text.
1. What we collect
To sign you in, we collect your phone number and use it to send a one-time verification code (OTP). We don't ask for your name, email, or a password.
| Data | Why we collect it | Where it lives |
|---|---|---|
| Phone number | Sign-in and subscription status | Our account server |
| Approximate location | Prayer times and Qibla direction | Requested live, not stored by us |
| Bookmarks, reading progress, tasbih counts | So the app remembers where you left off | Only in your browser's local storage |
| Theme & language preference | Personalizing the interface | Only in your browser's local storage |
2. How location is used
When you open Prayer Times or Qibla, your browser asks permission to share your device's coordinates. This is used only to calculate accurate timings and the Qibla bearing, sent directly to the timing service for that single request. We do not log or store your location history.
3. Third-party services we rely on
Some features work by calling external, specialized services rather than reinventing them. These include a Qur'an text and audio provider, a hadith and prayer-times provider, and a translation service used only when you switch to Bangla and a pre-built translation isn't available. Each request sends only what's needed to complete that feature — for example, your coordinates when requesting prayer times.
4. What stays on your device
Bookmarks, your last-read position, daily reading streaks, tasbih counts and your theme/language choice are stored using your browser's local storage. They are never transmitted to us and are removed if you clear your browser data or use "Clear local data" in Settings.
5. Your choices
- You can deny location access at any time; timings will fall back to an approximate default.
- You can clear all locally stored data from Settings → Data → Clear local data.
- You can log out at any time, which removes your session from this device.
6. Changes to this policy
If this policy changes materially, we'll update the date at the top of this page. Continued use of Barakaah after a change means you accept the updated policy.
7. Contact
